As we transition away from 2022 and into 2023 (minus awards season coverage, of course) a perfect end point is to share what some of the other folks on staff thought of the movies. Be sure to share your own top ten lists below!
Weird coincidence that I just realized about my own top ten list: My #1 begins with a disclaimer assuring me that no animals were harmed in the making of the film and my #10 ends with a disclaimer assuring me that no animals were harmed in the making of the film. Have no idea if that “means” literally anything at all, but it jumped out at me.
Also it’s interesting to me how, unlike last year, these lists have a little more consensus around them: The Fabelmans and Everything Everywhere All At Once were clear favorites among most of us, and in fact, the latter movie appears in all but two staff writer’s top ten lists here.
There does seem to be a cream of the crop among the staff, more or less.
By awarding 10 points for each film’s #1 placement, 9 points for a #2 placement, etc., the Awards Radar Staff Top 10 of 2022 would be:
I have yet to see Aftersun, Women Talking, Close, and a bunch of others, but for now my Top 10 of 2022 is:
I can’t pick a favorite list, but huge bonus points to Joey and Shane for including The Fabelmans as their #1, and props to Leila, Max, and Maxance for including it on their lists at all. Its support here is a very pleasant surprise, so thanks.
Fascinating, and thanks as always!
