Anna Kendrick doesn’t get enough in the way of dramatic roles. Obviously, she scored an Academy Award nomination in Best Supporting Actress for Up in the Air, but it’s the Pitch Perfect movies that she’s best known for. Now, she’s great in those films, but they’re only one side of her talents. So, something like Alice, Darling, a true dramatic showcase, is a rare beast for her, sadly. Kendrick knocks it out of the park in the flick, delivering some of her best work to date. So, when I was given the opportunity to talk with her recently, I was more than up for it. Our short conversation comes your way today.
In my recent review of Alice, Darling (found here), I had this to say about Kendrick’s performance:
Anna Kendrick has rarely been better than she is here. The way she puts forth how Alice has been transformed by the abusive relationship is riveting. She makes you buy in to the toxicity on hand almost immediately. This is one of Kendrick’s most challenging roles, making for an even bigger success.
Below, you can hear my chat with Kendrick. We focus on how effectively she depicted toxic relationships and emotional abuse in the film. Her answers are well thought out and really do illuminate the work, so this is a discussion well worth listening to. The movie is a tough watch, but one worth investing in, so now that Alice, Darling is in theaters, you should give it shot…
Here now is my interview with Alice, Darling star Anna Kendrick. Enjoy:
