Interview: Sabrina Impacciatore on Joining the Cast of ‘The White Lotus’ and Playing Valentina

HBO’s The White Lotus boasts an entirely new cast for its second, Italy-set season, with two notable exceptions. Among the most entertaining additions is Italian comedienne and actress Sabrina Impacciatore, who plays Valentina, the manager of The White Lotus in Sicily.

Awards Radar had the chance to speak with the extremely gregarious and lovely Impacciatore about her journey to the role and the enthralling experience of working with Mike White and her costars. She shared the intense pressure of living up to the standard set by Murray Bartlett as Armond in season one:

“Do you know how many nights I did not sleep because of Armond? Do you know that he became my obsession? He became my nightmare. I was scared to death because the pressure was too high. He had become an icon of the first season, and me, I was feeling like I will never be able to not make people regret me because I’m not him. I was making myself a monster, the voices telling me, Sabrina, you’re not going to make it. They love him. He’s a legend, and he’s so good.”

She also emphasized how much she loves that the show drops episodes one at a time, not all at once:

“I think that this torture of waiting one week for the next episode brings us back to desire, because we are not used anymore to desiring things. We have to get everything right now, in that moment, in that second. For example, I’m very pissed at my friend who called me from Italy and said, I’m going to wait for all the episodes and then I’m going to see them in a row. And I said, no, don’t talk to me, don’t call me, don’t write me. Disappear, because I want you to wait every week and desire and talk about it and think about it. We should go back to this.”
