The Producer’s Guild of America will be awarding Tom Cruise the David O. Selznick Achievement Award during February’s annual ceremony. This news comes a few hours after the National Board of Review has awarded Best Picture to Top Gun: Maverick.
In a joint statement, presidents Donald De Line and Stephanie Allain said that, “Beginning with ‘Mission: Impossible,’ Tom Cruise has developed a talent for producing to match his extraordinary talent as an actor. Tom approaches producing with the same meticulous attention to detail he brings to all of his professional endeavors. His commitment to telling bold, cinematic, and entertaining stories has elevated the global theatrical experience and has resulted in some of the most popular motion pictures in history.”
The 34th Producers Guild Awards will be held on Saturday, February 25th.

This makes Tom Cruise only the fourth producer who initially made his name in Hollywood as an actor to have won this award.
No women have been able to do this so far, unfortunately, and when looking up past recipients I was surprised to see that Barbra Streisand hasn’t yet won this.
That is surprising. I do think in the next year or two we’ll see a woman take this prize. Too many A-list actresses are now strong producers for it not to happen.
