‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’ to Release in Major Cinema Chains During Thanksgiving Weekend

Netflix

In a major bout of news, Netflix revealed that Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will be having a theatrical sneak preview event in all major U.S. theater chains (AMC, Regal and Cinemark) from November 23 to 29. Tickets will be on sale as of October 7th. The film has been a hit on the festival circuit, including at TIFF, where Joey loved it (here), so this is definitely one of the upcoming releases to look forward to.

This will mark the first time a Netflix production will play in all major cinemas for a wide release before making its way to the streaming service a month after its theatrical release, on December 23rd. The movie will also be releasing in Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Spain, Israel, Australia, and New Zealand in select theatres at the same time.

In a statement, director Rian Johnson expressed his joy about the movie being released in theatres, saying that “I’m over the moon that Netflix has worked with AMC, Regal and Cinemark to get Glass Onion in theaters for this one of a kind sneak preview. These movies are made to thrill audiences, and I can’t wait to feel the energy of the crowd as they experience GLASS ONION. Between this and the release on Netflix in December, I’m excited that audiences around the world will be able to enjoy the film!”

On the other hand, Netflix’s Head of Global Film Scott Stuber said that Netflix is “excited to offer fans an exclusive sneak preview of Rian’s incredible film. Given the excitement surrounding the premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, we hope fans will enjoy this special theatrical event in celebration of the film’s global debut on Netflix in December.”
