The highly anticipated sequel to 2019’s Knives Out will be released in select theaters in a yet to be confirmed release date, before being available on Netflix starting December 23rd. Rian Johnson returns to direct a new mystery, where Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) makes his way to Greece in order to rule out a whole new set of characters involved in a murder.
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery features a star-studded cast, which includes Edward Norton, Kathryn Hahn. Janelle Monáe, Leslie Odom Jr. and Dave Bautista. The project was filmed during the summer of 2021 in numerous locations, such as Greece. The movie will premiere next month, during this year’s edition of the Toronto International Film Festival.
The original film was also screened for the first time at TIFF back in 2019. Afterwards, it received a wide theatrical release by Lionsgate on Novemeber 27th. Knives Out received wide critical acclaim and went on to gross $311 million at the worldwide box office.
Netflix scored an enormous deal with Johnson last year, where they invested $469 million to get the rights to the second and the still to be developed third film in the series. A limited theatrical release will give Glass Onion the possibility to be eligible for awards.
