Disney+ is moving forward with an adaptation of Christopher Paolini‘s young adult book series, which is titled The Inheritance Cycle as reported by Variety. The project is still in very early stages of development, but the initial report indicates Paolini will participate as a co-writer in the show.
The Inheritance Cycle is a four book series that tells the story of Eragon, a young boy who takes on the mission to defeat the evil King Galbatorix. Eragon is helped on his quest by Saphira, the dragon he happened to find while she was still an egg.
The first book of the series was adapted into a motion picture back in 2006, directed by Stefen Fangmeier and starring Ed Speelers (Love Bite, Plastic) as the protagonist of the story, while Rachel Weisz (The Mummy, The Favourite) voiced his fearless dragon, Saphira. Due to the film’s poor performance at the box office, a sequel was never produced and the franchise remained dormant until this new project’s announcement.
Eragon would join Percy Jackson and The Olympians, a fellow young adult novel adaptation, as the latest effort by the platform to create more content for said demography. Bert Salke will serve as executive producer for the Eragon series under his Co-Lab 21 banner, while the project will be produced by 20th Television.
