Viola Davis to Star in Amanda Waller Spinoff for HBO Max

With the incredible success of Peacemaker, James Gunn had previously teased that he was working on more DC-related projects with Warner Bros. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gunn’s next project, after The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, and the second season of Peacemaker is another Suicide Squad-related spinoff starring Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.

Davis did appear during two episodes of Peacemaker, as she was the mother of Danielle Brooks‘ Leota Adebayo, so it isn’t a surprise that Gunn and HBO Max were developing a spinoff related to her character. Details of the show are being kept under wraps, but it will apparently build on Davis’ appearance in the season finale of Peacemaker, where Adebayo revealed that her mother was behind Project Butterfly.

Christal Henry of Watchmen will be writing the script, with Gunn executive producing. It’s still unclear if Gunn will be directing any episode, but he will be co-producing with Davis and Peter Safran.
