Academy Opens Formal Review on Will Smith’s Actions at 94th Oscars

The Academy has released a statement today condemning Will Smith‘s actions towards Chris Rock during the 94th Academy Awards, and has officially opened a formal review on his behavior.

Prior to winning the Best Actor Oscar for his performance in King Richard, Smith went up on stage and slapped Chris Rock in the face after the presenter made a joke that referenced his wife’s alopecia. If you missed it, you can watch the moment here:

It reads: “The Academy condemns the actions of Mr. Smith at last night’s show. We have officially started a formal review around the incident and will explore further action and consequences in accordance with our Bylaws, Standards of Conduct and California law.”
