Last week, West Side Story actress Rachel Zegler revealed on her Instagram that she did not receive an invitation to attend the 94th edition of the Academy Awards, even if her movie was nominated for 7 Oscars.
She wrote “Idk y’all, I have tried it all, but it doesn’t seem to be happening. I will root for ‘West Side Story’ from my couch and be proud of the work we so tirelessly did three years ago. I hope some last-minute miracle occurs and I can celebrate our film in person, but hey, that’s how it goes sometimes, I guess. Thanks for all the shock and outrage — I’m disappointed too. But that’s okay. So proud of our movie.”
It looks like the Academy has reached out to her to make sure she attends the Oscars, as she has been formally invited to present a category this Sunday, though it is unclear which category she will actually be presenting.
According to Variety, Zegler is currently filming the Snow White remake in London, and the filming schedule would have to be tweaked to allow her to fly to Los Angeles and present at the Oscars. The Academy has not formally confirmed Zegler’s presence, but an announcement could be made very soon in that regard.
