Today, Neon announced that Joachim Trier‘s The Worst Person in the World would physically release on Criterion sometime in 2022. The film, written by Trier and Eskil Vogt, and starring Renate Reinsve (interviewed by Joey here) and Anders Danielsen Lie, has been acclaimed by critics worldwide (including Joey’s rave out of the Toronto International Film Festival here) and won the Best Actress prize at the Cannes Film Festival. In fact, it’ll next be seen at the Sundance Film Festival next month. You can look at the official announcement below:
In his review for the movie during TIFF, our editor-in-chief Joey Magidson said that the movie “is a gloriously funny, moving, sexy, and smart romantic dramedy that subverts all expectations” and that it stands “among the best romantic comedies of this recent age”, finally saying that audiences will fall in love with a film poised to blow everyone away.
No details on the exact release date of the criterion edition of the film, but The Worst Person in the World is planning to release exclusively in theaters in February, poised to be a major Awards contended in Best International Film this year.
