The race for Best Documentary Feature at the Academy Awards is a tight one. The precursor season so far has suggested that Summer Of Soul (…Or, When The Revolution Could Not Be Televised) is the one to beat, but it’s hard to deny that both Flee (which would be quite the history making nominee, depending on how it does elsewhere) and The Rescue present very compelling cases. One of the places that might clear things up for Oscar is the Producers Guild of America. The doc cited by the PGA could well be the one to beat. As such, the guild announced their documentary nominees earlier, which you can see below…
Here are the documentaries nominated by the PGA:
- Ascension (MTV Documentary Films)
- The First Wave (NatGeo)
- Flee (Neon/Participant)
- In The Same Breath (HBO Documentary Films)
- The Rescue (NatGeo)
- Simple As Water (HBO Documentary Films)
- Summer Of Soul (…Or, When The Revolution Could Not Be Televised) (Searchlight Pictures)
- Writing With Fire (Music Box Films)
Stay tuned to see which one the PGA selects as its winner!
