As the title of episode eight would suggest, the entire TMS staff has to scramble to confirm Mitch’s (Steve Carell) death from the ending of the previous episode. For as messy and chaotic as the entire second season has been, this episode effectively put the viewers on edge, while an entire show has to go through the proper steps to confirm if their disgraced former co-worker truly died in a car crash in Italy.
Everyone is running around not knowing the right way to handle the situation. Most importantly, the news can’t break until Mitch’s ex-wife and children know of his passing. Chip Black (Mark Duplass), is charged with the unenviable task of location Alex (Jennifer Aniston), who is stuck in Italy, where no one knows she went to. Meanwhile, Bradley (Reese Witherspoon) has to continue juggling a burgeoning relationship with Laura (Julianna Margulies) and her addict brother, who surprised her with a visit.
Having completed the season (two more recaps to come), this is the best episode season two of The Morning Show had to offer – by a lot. It’s a bit unnerving to watch everyone scramble to try and confirm news from another country, while sifting through the moral implications of mourning a life lost, when it’s not easy to say something kind of someone who did despicable things.
