Mel Brooks‘ 1981 comedy film History of the World Part I has not received any kind of follow-up ever since its release decades ago, despite the fact that the title seemed to promise a sequel was inevitable. Well, now it is happening.
According to Variety, History of the World, Part II is a brand new, upcoming show described as a sequel to the 1981 film. The film was made up of segments set during different periods of world history.
Brooks will serve as an executive producer on the new series and will also write some episodes. Other producers include Nick Kroll, Wanda Sykes, Ike Barinholtz, David Stassen, and Kevin Salter. Because the series is so early in the developmental stages, it’s not clear what periods of history the show will explore.
Hulu, the show’s distributor, has ordered eight episodes for the series with writing beginning this month. Production is scheduled to commence in the Spring of 2022.
