First Trailer for ‘Scream’ Teases The Return of Familiar Faces

Scream fans, rejoice! The first trailer for the new Scream sequel is finally here! Even if its title is the same as Wes Craven‘s 1996 film, it is not a reboot, but a direct sequel to 2011’s Scream 4, and will be directed by Ready or Not filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, with a script written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, based on characters created by Kevin Williamson.

Characters from the original film return, played by David Arquette, Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, Roger L. Jackson, and Marley Shelton, and are joined by Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, and Dylan Minnette among the cast of newcomers. Here’s the official plot from Paramount Pictures:

“Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past.”

You can watch the trailer below and see the film exclusively in theaters January 14, 2022:
