Interview: Nasim Pedrad Discusses the Significance of ‘Chad’

Getting a show on the air sounds exhausting. No matter what program it is, it’s a multi-year process, often filled with more disappointments than successes. So, any show that comes to fruition is a major accomplishment. That’s all the more so when the show is doing something that’s never been seen before. This makes what Nasim Pedrad pulled off with her TBS comedy Chad a feat that we should all be in awe of. Even if you don’t care about her sitcom, the idea that she can make a sitcom done from the perspective of a cultural outsider is worth applauding. Given the chance to talk to her, I was very eager to do so, as you might imagine. The results of that interview are here for you to enjoy today.

Below, you can hear my chat with Pedrad. We hopped on Zoom to talk about the show, tackling it from a few angles. The sitcom idea itself, as well as the specifics of Chad are discussed, though before you think this is an overly self-serious interview, we laugh a lot. Pedrad is really funny, not to mention easy-going, so it was a pleasure to talk to the actress and writer. The creative force behind Chad deserves all of the kudos coming her way. Pedrad is going to be a big deal in television comedy, certainly for this show, but even just going forward. She’s got the goods. Listen to my discussion with her and that will quickly become evident.
