Directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite, Our Friend tells the true story of Nicole Teague (Dakota Johnson), a woman whose life is upended when she is diagnosed with terminal cancer. As her husband Matt (Casey Affleck) struggles to be both caretaker and parent, their best friend Dane (Jason Segel) offers to help them out, leading to a touching, heartfelt story of compassion and the impact that one person’s kindness can have on people’s lives.
In our 4/4 rave review of the film, Kendall Tinston praised it as a “relatable, human movie” that “will make you want to embrace those who are most significant to you”. With several appearances in our staff’s top ten lists of 2020, this is a film that we at Awards Radar can’t recommend enough.
