A Showtime Limited Series about the Capitol Riots is in Development

Do you think it’s too soon for a dramatic Showtime limited series about the Capitol riots of January 6th, 2021? If your answer is no, then you’re in luck, as the network is bringing back The Comey Rule duo Billy Ray and Shane Salerno for a story set around the events that led to this unfathomable moment in United States history.

Showtime has ordered three scripts for the untitled series, set to be written and directed by Ray, and executive produced by Salerno. Ray has made his career out of turning true stories into dramatic thrillers for the screen, having written and directed the films Shattered Glass and Breach and written Richard Jewell and Captain Phillips, the latter of which he earned an Oscar nomination for.

The two previously collaborated on The Comey Rule last September, which became Showtime’s highest rated limited series ever and received 2 Golden Globe nominations for stars Jeff Daniels and Brendan Gleeson

No word yet on who would star in this series about this domestic terrorism event, but Ray’s scripts will apparently focus on an exploration of multiple points of view of the events leading up to the account, eventually culminating with the attack itself and the investigations afterwards, which are still taking place.

Perhaps that’s a sign that this might be too recent, or too sensitive, of a topic to be taking on in this manner. Perhaps not. Time will tell what the verdict on this one will be. What we know for now is that Showtime is moving full steam ahead.
