Interview: Tracy Morgan Talks ‘Coming 2 America’

Tracy Morgan had an energy almost unmatched in Hollywood. Whether it’s on television with 30 Rock, on film with things like the underrated Cop Out, or anywhere in between, he’s just a machine of comedy. To spend any manner of time with Morgan is to be just along for the ride. A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to experience this, as I was set up on Zoom for an interview with Morgan. The occasion is the Coming to America sequel Coming 2 America, of course. As you might imagine, it’s hardly the only thing we talked about, since he was really excited to just be shooting the breeze.

Below, you can see my conversation with Morgan. We chat about New York City, Coming 2 America, Eddie Murphy, and Morgan’s character. That’s just the tip of the iceberg, too. I was just along for the ride, letting Tracy steer the ship. At the same time, it’s genuinely touching to hear him talk about his investment in Uncle Reem. As much as it was clear that he had a blast, he’s not someone who’s going to abandon good work just to have fun. That’s what makes this more than just a silly cameo, too. Be sure to check out our discussion, but also stay tuned for more interviews with the cast and crew.

Here now is my interview with Coming 2 America co-star Tracy Morgan. Enjoy:
