Moments ago, the Writers Guild of America released their nominees for the 2021 Writers Guild Awards. Each year, the WGA disqualifies several major contenders for a whole litany of reasons, so before anyone notices Nomadland having missed, it wasn’t eligible, for example. Notable snubs this year strike me as Da 5 Bloods in Original and i’m thinking of ending things in Adapted.
In terms of what made it in, you’ll see the full list below, but for my money, this WGA lineup in Original is an all-timer. Judas and the Black Messiah, Palm Springs, Promising Young Woman, Sound of Metal, and The Trial of the Chicago 7? Hard to beat that five.
