Interview: Kingsley Ben-Adir Chats About ‘One Night in Miami…’

In a relatively short period of time, Kinglsey Ben-Adir has truly made a name for himself. Roles such as President Barack Obama in The Comey Rule and a recurring part in the High Fidelity series marked a successful 2020, and that was even before we knew about how good he was in One Night in Miami…, Regina King‘s directorial debut. Even before that, parts on The OA and Peaky Blinders hinted at Ben-Adir’s skillset, but One Night in Miami… suddenly has him in the Oscar conversation. Tied into that push, I was lucky enough to speak with him recently, which you can hear below. He’s a good interview, to say the least, so the end result was a real pleasure.

My conversation with Kingsley Ben-Adir can be heard next, which took place the day after he won the Gotham Award for Breakthrough Actor. We obviously talk a lot about One Night in Miami…, specifically about figuring out how to play Malcolm X, but that’s not all we discussed. Ben-Adir even made sure to shout out Sidney Flanigan, whose work in Never Rarely Sometimes Always he truly was impressed by. He had incredibly nice things to say about Flanigan, which was a lovely touch. It made an interesting chat even more satisfying, since you just know he’s a good dude, on top of a talented actor.

Here now is my interview with One Night in Miami… star Kingsley Ben-Adir. Enjoy:

Kingsley Ben-Adir is BRITISH?! And gushed over Sidney Flanigan for like a solid minute? Academy Award.
