Chloé Zhao’s Nomadland continues to dominate early critics group awards, as the Frances McDormand starrer from Searchlight Pictures led the 2020 Florida Film Critics Circle award nominations, announced today.
Nomadland tied Lee Isaac Chung’s Minari with six nominations, followed by The Father, First Cow and The Trial of the Chicago 7, which each landed five.
Notable among the acting nominations is a posthumous double acknowledgement for Chadwick Boseman, who was nominated for Best Actor for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, as well as Best Supporting Actor for Da 5 Bloods. Brian Dennehy also landed a posthumous nomination for Best Supporting Actor for Driveways.
The pre-season Oscar front-runner, Mank, continues to disappoint with the critics, as the David Fincher passion project earned just three nominations, for Screenplay (another posthumous nomination for Jack Fincher), Cinematography and Art Direction/Production. Perhaps the most glaring omission is the lack of a nomination for Amanda Seyfried in Supporting Actress, as she has been perceived as the clear front-runner in that category for the Academy Awards.
Winners will be announced on December 21. Here is the full list of nominations:
