After committing back in August to holding a physical festival in 2021, The Berlin Film Festival has now announced that due to the rising number of COVID-19 infections in Germany, the 71st fest will be virtual after all. Originally scheduled to run from February 11 -21, the organizers are now looking to present a virtual event in early March, to coincide with the European Film Market, which will be running as a digital event at that same time.
In an exclusive report in Variety, a spokesperson for the Berlinale festival declined to comment, but noted the details of the event will be released later this week.
