Interview: Keegan DeWitt Talks Original Music in Film

Keegan DeWitt

If you love a good Original Song in a movie, you should love the work of Keegan DeWitt. An accomplished film composer and musician, he also has been consistently putting forth songs in the work of Brett Haley that are among the best in the business. DeWitt has provided music for Haley on I’ll See You In My Dreams, The Hero, Hearts Beat Loud, All the Bright Places, and most recently, All Together Now. With the exception of All the Bright Places (which was just a wonderful score), he’s also put forth songs more than worthy of Best Original Song nominations at the Oscars. That the Academy has consistently snubbed him is a shame, but it’s only a matter of time for him. As such, it was actually a pleasure to speak with him recently, getting in on the ground floor, before voters flock to him.

Below you can hear my chat with DeWitt. It’s casual and fun, but also, I think, very informative. As you can tell, his tunes for The Hero, Hearts Beat Loud, and All Together Now especially has left their mark on me. So, it was a pleasure to get on the phone and talk with the man. Enjoy the interview and be sure to check out all of his work!
