Could the Emmy Awards Be Looking to Unify?

Almost a half century ago, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences split into two different groups. In doing so, the Emmy Awards have been functionally split into two bodies for nearly 50 years, in 1977. The Los Angeles based TV Academy handles the Primetime Emmy Awards, while the New York based NATAS handles the Daytime Emmy Awards, the Sports Emmys, the Childrens & Family Emmys, the News & Documentary Emmys, regional Emmys, as well as the International Emmys. Well, those days could be coming to an end. More below.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the two organizations are holding what they call “exploratory talks” about coming together again. A reunification of the two would put all of the Emmy Awards under one roof, which could prove notable as a television deal is on the horizon. This is very early days for this possibility, but it’s one to keep an eye on, that’s for sure.
