A24, Focus, and Netflix Have Passed on ‘Artificial’

As we reported a few days ago (here), Luca Guadagnino‘s Sam Altman project Artificial would no longer be released by Amazon, as they’d opted to drop the movie. Andrew Garfield stars as the OpenAI founder, while the rest of the cast includes Monica BarbaroIke Barinholtz, and Yura Borisov in central roles. The search has sense then been on for a new landing spot, though it appears as thought several of the obvious suspects aren’t interested. More below.

According to Variety, A24, Focus, and Netflix have all passed on acquiring Artificial. That leaves Mubi and NEON as potential homes, with the former seemingly the most interested. Time will tell why the film is having such a tough time finding a new home, but one hopes it’s (for better or worse) due to quality, as opposed to those distributors having AI relationships to uphold. We’ll find out eventually.
