Joey’s Home Movies For the Week of February 2nd – Osgood Perkins Has Another Horror Offering to Share with ‘Keeper’

Welcome back to my Home Movies! Today, we have the second Osgood Perkins film of 2025 to highlight in Keeper. Outside of that, it’s admittedly a pretty light slate. The other offerings this week notably have the Criterion Collection release of the original 3:10 to Yuma, as well as some 4K re-releases. Is anything else of interest or note hitting shelves? Well, you’ll just hvae to read on in order to find out…

Joey’s Top Pick

NEON

Keeper

Oz Perkins is at his best when he also writes his films, so it’s probably not surprising that Keeper is a step below the likes of Longlegs and The Monkey. Still, Perkins is a distinct visual storyteller, so even if the story he’s telling isn’t quite up to snuff, it still looks incredibly unsettling. He’s a filmmaker worth supporting, especially when his prior two movies have been instant modern genre classics. This isn’t that, but it’s not a complete misfire, either. So, you’d be well served by giving the flick a look, especially if you’re a horror fan.

3:10 to Yuma

From The Criterion Collection: “In this beautifully shot, psychologically complex western, Van Heflin is a mild-mannered cattle rancher who takes on the task of shepherding a captured outlaw (played with cucumber-cool charisma by Glenn Ford) to the train that will deliver him to prison. This apparently simple mission turns into a nerve-racking cat-and-mouse game that tests each man’s particular brand of honor. Based on a story by Elmore Leonard, 3:10 to Yuma is a thrilling, humane action movie, directed by the supremely talented studio filmmaker Delmer Daves with intense feeling and precision.”

Stay tuned for more next week!
