Earlier this week, we shared the story here that Michael B. Jordan was in discussions to play one of the two leads in a new Miami Vice, with Joseph Kosinski directing. Jordan would be Ricardo Tubbs, which obviously begged the question of who would be playing Sonny Crockett? Well, it seems like we know who the first choice is, and it’s another major A-lister.
According to Deadline, Austin Butler is in early talks to play Crockett, opposite Jordan’s Tubbs. If everything comes together, Butler and Jordan would be a star-studded pairing, not unlike how Michael Mann brought together Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx for the prior big screen adaptation of the TV series, which Mann executive produced back in the 1980s, with Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas in the leads. Kosinski this time is directing a script by Eric Warren Singer and Dan Gilroy. Assuming deals can be made, Miami Vice should be moving forward soon.
