Films to See at the 63rd New York Film Festival

This week, screenings will begin for the 63rd New York Film Festival. NYFF has already had Press and Industry screenings (better known around town as P&I screenings) going on since last week, but Friday night kicks the festival off for real. As always, the fest is another opportunity to appreciate the most prestigious movies of the season. Hot on the heels of the Toronto International Film Festival for me (and a little before that, the Telluride Film Festival), New York is always very much a homecoming for me. After TIFF, NYFF will again seem positively quaint. Make no mistake, however, the quality here is going to be off the charts, as always. I’ve seen a lot of what’s playing, at least in terms of the notable movies, but still, the fest does not lack for interesting titles.

Without question, NYFF is always home to the finest in a year’s cinematic offerings, and 2025 will be no exception. Again, and much like last year, I’ve seen a number of them already at Telluride and TIFF, so I know this to be true. Things like Blue Moon, Jay Kelly, Nouvelle Vague, A Private Life, Sentimental Value, and Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere impressed me while in Canada and Colorado, or at least screened, while by the time the festival begins I’ll have already taken in After the Hunt and A House of Dynamite. That’s just the tip of the iceberg too, as you’ll see below…
