Having an actor play you in a film must be a really strange thing. For Mike Flynt, he’s obviously led an extraordinary life, especially considering how he was able to play college football in his 50s. Still, eventually seeing Michael Chiklis play you in a movie has to be a trip. Rod Lurie‘s flick The Senior has Chiklis inhabiting Flynt and telling his story, effectively so, too. Recently, I sat down with both of them to talk about Lurie’s latest film. Today, our chat comes your way.
In my review of the movie (here), I said the following about Chiklis:
Michael Chiklis delivers an intense and very compelling performance. He’s able to showcase exactly how determined Mike Flynt was to do this, as well as never papers over his more flawed behavior. Quickly, Chiklis has you rooting for Flynt.
Below, you can see my conversation with Chiklis and Flynt. In our limited time, I wanted to hear about the responsibility of playing a real life person, as well as what it’s like to see someone play you on screen. Both men obliged with very interesting responses, so even without a ton of time to talk, we got plenty in. The Senior is in theaters tomorrow and is well worth checking out, especially if you like a throwback inspirational sports story.
Herw now is my interview with The Senior star Michael Chiklis and the real Mike Flynt. Enjoy:
The Senior is in theaters this weekend!
