The dust has barely settled on Denis Villeneuve being hired as the next James Bond director, but already some details are emerging. For example, it’s a one film deal, without final cut, so Amazon MGM will have strong say in things. It also sounds like the movie is aiming for a 2028 release, after Villeneuve is done with Dune: Messiah. As for other tidbits, you can see more below.
According to Variety, Villeneuve officially beat out Edward Berger, Edgar Wright, Paul King, and Jonathan Nolan, while Alfonso Cuarón pulled out after being pursued heavily by producer David Heyman for the job. Next up for 007 is Amazon MGM bringing aboard a writer for Villeneuve (Nolan has been mentioned as a possibility but seems unlikely) and then getting a Bond in place. The article states they’re looking for a British actor under 30, which means many of the presumed names previously are no longer in play. The powers that be apparently are interested in Jacob Elordi, Tom Holland, and Harris Dickinson, though they’re hardly the only candidates. Much more will come soon for this, as once Villeneuve wraps his final Dune project, he’s on to Bond.
