Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie are pretty much joined at the hip these days. Even now, as they’ve released Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning into theaters, there’s several projects coming up that they could be paired on. One is a potential remake of The Gauntlet, for example, while another is the previously announced Top Gun 3. Well, McQuarrie has given an update on that sequel, which he’s been working on in some way.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, McQuarrie said in an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he’s cracked the story for a third Top Gun. That doesn’t mean that he’s written anything yet, but he and co-writer Ehren Kruger have been talking things out, in advance of actually starting a screenplay. Assuming it happens, Joseph Kosinski would again direct, Cruise would return, while we’d see Glenn Powell and Miles Teller return from Top Gun: Maverick.
