Timothée Chalamet to Host and Guest Sing on ‘Saturday Night Live’ on January 25

Throughout Saturday Night Live‘s history, only four non-professional singers had the privilege to host and be the guest singer of the weekly variety program: Lily Tomlin, Desi Arnaz, Gary Busey, and Deion Sanders.

Now, Timothée Chalamet will be the fifth person to be bestowed with such an honor, promoting his work in James Mangold‘s A Complete Unknown. Chalamet sang many of the movie’s songs himself, channeling the freewheelin’ spirit of Bob Dylan in ways that few have embodied on film. He will be hosting and singing on the upcoming episode of Saturday Night Live, which will take place on January 25.

This would theoretically come a week after the Oscar nominations are out, on January 19. Chalamet will more than likely be nominated for his turn as Bob Dylan, so what better way to attract Academy voters to select his performance than to demonstrate his singing talent on one of America’s most popular shows!

After all, should he win, Chalamet would become the youngest Best Actor Oscar winner in history, and he would beat Adrien Brody for his performance in The Pianist. Funnily enough, Brody is also in contention to win the Best Actor prize this year again for Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist. And after a win at the Golden Globes last week, he may be the best-positioned to go all the way. Still, we’re in the early days of Awards season, and anything can happen!
