Wicked is a certified smash, across the board. Strong reviews, terrific box office, and awards season successes so far all add up to the film being one of 2024’s biggest. One of the things the movie needed to do was bring in audiences who weren’t just obsessed with the Broadway show. Enter Dana Fox, one of the writers on the flick, who approached things from that angle. Considering how I also hadn’t seen the show on stage, it made all the sense in the world to chat with her about it. We spoke back last year, but today, for my first 2025 interview to share, I present to you Fox and I.
Below, you can hear my conversation with Fox. We touch on her earlier career, which is a lot of romantic comedies, but tackling Wicked is the main focus of our discussion. She’s absolutely lovely, as well as very generous with her time, so there’s a kindness and heart to our talk that I really appreciated. She also talks very intelligently about the writing process, so there’s plenty to dig into here. The film is still in theaters, but also available On Demand, so it’s easy to watch or re-watch, especially if you’re among those who helped make it such a big hit!
Here now is my interview with Wicked screenwriter Dana Fox. Enjoy:
