The Greater Western New York Film Critics Association Announces 2024 Film Awards Nominees

The Greater Western New York Film Critics Association (GWNYFCA), a collective of WNY film critics from in and around the Buffalo and Rochester metropolitan areas, has just announced its seventh annual film awards nominees for 2024. Forty-two (42) different titles are represented on the ballot.

The film critics group consists of members in traditional print media (newspapers and magazines) and online media (websites and podcasts), including Awards Radar’s Steven Prusakowski. In an era of aggregate sites, the GWNYFCA aspires to give the region a voice within the ever-changing international cinematic landscape.

Beyond our ten Best Picture nominees are five nominees (or six in the case of a fifth-place tie) for fifteen other categories that highlight the best work in front of and behind the camera. Potential titles/artists were restricted to those films released as first-run theatrical or streaming in the United States during the 2024 calendar year.

Visit their website for a full account of this year’s nominees. Leading the way are THE BRUTALIST (8 nominations), ANORA (7 nominations), CHALLENGERS, and NICKEL BOYS (6 nominations each).

Steven Prusakowski has been a cinephile as far back as he can remember, literally. At the age of ten, while other kids his age were sleeping, he was up into the late hours of the night watching the Oscars. Since then, his passion for film, television, and awards has only grown. For over a decade he has reviewed and written about entertainment through publications including Awards Circuit and Screen Radar. He has conducted interviews with some of the best in the business - learning more about them, their projects and their crafts. He is a graduate of the RIT film program. You can find him on Twitter and Letterboxd as @FilmSnork – we don’t know why the name, but he seems to be sticking to it.
