Another day, another Christopher Nolan casting announcement. This time around, The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Charlize Theron is the latest A-lister to join the yet-to-be-titled project from the Oscar-winning filmmaker set to bow out in cinemas on July 17, 2026.
Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, and Lupita Nyong’o are all set to star in what looks to be Nolan’s most secretive project yet. No details on the plot synopsis or any of the characters have been revealed, other than Damon, Holland, Pattinson, and Hathaway being its leads, while Zendaya and Nyong’o will be supporting characters.
It’s unclear if Theron will play a lead or supporting character, though one may assume she is in the latter category. Since nothing concrete is known about the project, it’s hard to tell exactly who she will be playing. We do know that Nolan plans to reteam with Universal Pictures, which gave their last film, Oppenheimer, a 100-day theatrical run. The film was a massive critical and commercial success and made over $976 million at the worldwide box office at a difficult time for cinemas grappling with the effects of the dual writers and actors’ strikes.
The movie went on to be nominated for thirteen Academy Awards, winning seven, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Cillian Murphy, Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr., and Best Director. It remains to be seen if Nolan’s next movie will achieve the same success, but one thing’s sure: it will be an event to remember!
