Interview: John Larroquette Discusses Returning to Play Dan Fielding and Season Three of ‘Night Court’

Growing up, I loved Night Court. As such, I was enamored as a kid by John Larroquette. It didn’t hurt that he was the bad guy in Richie Rich, but Dan Fielding amused me to no end. The whole cast was a riot, so when I heard about the Night Court reboot/sequel, I was hesitant, given that most of the original players are no longer with us. However, Larroquette managed to not just make the show worth watching, he’s doing it by playing Dan in a whole new manner. As such, when given the chance to talk to him ahead of Season Three premiering next week, I jumped at the opportunity.

Below, you can see my conversation with Larroquette. I couldn’t resist bringing up Richie Rich to him, which he found amusing, but this is largely about legacy and Night Court. He talks about how working with Melissa Rauch was part of the appeal, how he was able to shape the character, and more. He’s clearly tickled by those like myself who grew up on his work, so it comes off in the discussion.
