Today, Awards Radar can exclusively premiere the Main Theme track from Apple TV+’s new miniseries Lady in the Lake. The soundtrack by Marcus Norris debuts tomorrow digitally, right as the show does as well. So, you can listen to this title track by Norris and then check out the rest, as well as the show itself, afterwards.
The series stars Natalie Portman (interviewed here by Joey yesterday), while Alma Har’el directs. The series is described as such: “When the disappearance of a young girl grips the city of Baltimore on Thanksgiving 1966, the lives of two women converge on a fatal collision course. Maddie Schwartz (Natalie Portman) is a Jewish housewife seeking to shed a secret past and reinvent herself as an investigative journalist, and Cleo Johnson (Moses Ingram) is a mother navigating the political underbelly of Black Baltimore while struggling to provide for her family. Their disparate lives seem parallel at first, but when Maddie becomes fixated on Cleo’s mystifying death, a chasm opens that puts everyone around them in danger. From visionary director Alma Har’el, “Lady in the Lake” emerges as a feverish noir thriller and an unexpected tale of the price women pay for their dreams.”
In regards to the score, Norris has the following to say: “From the beginning, Alma tasked me to compose an ‘iconic’ and distinct score for Lady in the Lake. She wanted a soundtrack that didn’t sound like anything else on television, and in pursuit of that she gave me the green light to take big swings. The music became a character.
We knew early on that we didn’t want music that fit neatly into the boxes of classical, klezmer,
jazz, mystery, soul, or any other established genres. Instead, we decided to deconstruct those
sounds to varying degrees, sometimes beyond recognition, to then combine and rebuild them
into something new tailored to our story. Within that specificity, I believe we’ve found a
universality, and I hope people are as moved by this music as we have been.”
