Natalie Portman is an actress with nearly impeccable taste. The Academy Award on her mantle, as well as several Oscar nominations in general, suggests as much. Few others have had such diverse work as Black Swan, Garden State, Jackie, and May December all play as if only they could have done the roles. So, it only makes sense that she would be judicious in choosing when to take on a television project. As such, Lady in the Lake is just as challenging, entertaining, and unique as anything she’s done on the big screen. When the opportunity to have a quick chat with Portman about the role came up, I jumped at the chance. Today, that discussion comes your way.
Below, you can see my conversation with Portman. We didn’t have a lot of time, but I wanted to ask about her role selections and the consideration that goes into them. It leads to a really interesting back and forth. This period crime drama, where she plays an investigative journalist, fits right in with the other singular turns of late from Portman. You can check it out on Apple TV+ this weekend, and once you do, you’ll almost certainly agree.
Here now is my interview with Lady in the Lake star Natalie Portman. Enjoy:
