Awards Radar Community: What is Your Favorite Donald Sutherland Performance?

JFK

Yesterday, we got the sad news that Donald Sutherland had passed away. It was, however, heartening to see so many people put forth different works of his that they were partial to. Despite never having been nominated for an Academy Award (truly a huge career snub), Sutherland left a staggering body of work. To honor the man, who was in just about everything, we’re centering the Awards Radar Community Question on him. Simply put, what is your favorite performance of his?

The options are myriad, and only start with the likes of Don’t Look Now, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, JFK, and MASH. There’s also his late career turns in The Hunger Games franchise, as well as Ordinary People. Oscar may never have gotten to him, but between those films, as well as tons others, he left a huge mark on cinema. This is only scratching the surface, too, when it comes to Sutherland. There’s smaller roles that I loved like the ones he put forth in Fierce People and Reign Over Me. He really could do it all.

So, which turn from Donald Sutherland is your favorite? Is it one that I already mentioned? Is it something completely different? Wherever you land, we want to know about it. So, pay tribute to Sutherland and don’t be shy here…

I had to include a TV performance as it’s one of the best in a time when HBO made some really great films on a yearly basis. I think he would have gotten his oscar nomination if times were different. My number 10 is a combination of devilish roles he played in the 90’s like that one and outbreak amongst others.

  1. Ordinary People
  2. Mash
  3. Citizen X
  4. Klute
  5. Don’t Look Now
  6. JFK
  7. Without Limits
  8. Aurora Borealis
  9. Animal House
  10. Disclosure
