Since 2020, Jane Lynch has hosted the rebooted game show Weakest Link. Fans might remember the popular show that swept U.S. audiences back in 2001. Back then, it was an adaptation of the wildly successful British TV show. Lynch, whose career as an actress has spanned decades in film, TV, and Broadway, brings something fresh to the show.
Hosting a game show isn’t a stretch for Lynch, as NBC tapped her back in 2013 to host the show Hollywood Game Night, a show that merges celebrities from different areas of entertainment for a night of games.
When it comes to The Weakest Link, the crew behind the show didn’t try to reinvent the wheel, and instead, leaned into the same music and visual staples that fans loved about the original show. As host, Jane Lynch is a welcome addition and makes the show her own, while never straying too far from the original. The most enjoyable part of watching Lynch is how she effortlessly interacts with the contestants, whether it’s a quick quip or a sarcastic comment—it’s all done with a twinkle in her eye.
“I get to be kind of snarky, and that’s kind of fun for the most part,” said Lynch. Weakest Link is very dramatic. We have the music, and we have the light cues, and we banish people. It’s almost like Game of Thrones the game show, and I love getting into that, where the woman who originally hosted the show, Anne Robinson, was dead serious in her demeanor. I have a little more tongue-in-cheek.”
Jane Lynch spoke to Awards Radar for the second time this season about her hosting duties, her career thus far, and of course, whether or not she would be game for a Glee reboot.
