During Amazon MGM Studios’ Upfront presentation, Jennifer Salke announced that a sequel to Doug Liman‘s Road House is officially in the works at MGM, with Jake Gyllenhaal reprising his role as Dalton.
On stage, Salke lauded the success of the first film, stating, “As we saw this spring the world went crazy for a little movie called Road House. Nearly 8 million viewers globally have watched Road House. We like to watch these results like a baby.”
There is no word on whether Doug Liman will return to direct the second installment or what the specifics of the plot will be, but since the director publicly went against Amazon’s release plans for the film (he was also the subject of a terrific Casey Neistat video on the matter), the chances of him returning are quite slim.
Still, if you enjoyed Road House, this news is sure to be quite exciting, as the original franchise also had a sequel in Road House 2: Last Call, which was released on DVD in 2006. While the film may not be the best, its action sequences were crafted by none other than Sam Hargrave and JJ Perry, and, as a result, are terrifically entertaining. Here’s hoping the sequel will improve on all areas of Liman’s movie, and give us more bar fights!
