Last night brought an Oscar ceremony that seemed to go over well, both critically and in terms of audience reactions. Now, did the Academy Awards actually increase their viewership? Well, the ratings are in and the answer is…yes, but only a bit.
According to Deadline, the 96th Academy Awards experienced a 4% increase in ratings from last year. 19.5 million viewers turned in to watch the Oscars, which is the most we’ve seen since the pandemic. Now, the thought that blockbusters in the race like Barbie and Oppenheimer would juice up the numbers didn’t come to pass. At the same time, an increase is always good here, especially these days. We’ll see what the producers ultimately think of these numbers, but it’s clear that more people tuned in this time around.
