Over the weekend, the Grammys were held. Now, the thing about the Grammy Awards is that they’re very different than the Academy Awards. At the same time, however, they do some things that I actually think AMPAS should pay attention to. Do I want the Oscars to become the Grammys? No, not necessarily, but I do think they should be taking notes. Am I the only one? That’s the crux of this bonus Awards Radar Community Question: do you want the Oscars to look more like the Grammys? If so, how?
On the one hand, I think others might agree that the Grammy Awards honor their legends and actually showcase a passion for their medium better than the Academy Awards do. Sure, the Oscars show clips from the nominated films, but their tributes to movies often fall short, let alone any type of centerpiece moment for the giants of cinema. Doing something about that would certainly be a step in the right direction.
The flip-side, obviously, is that the Grammys don’t televise every award. We know how much we hated when Oscar tried that, so that should be a no-go. However, the Grammy Awards somehow generate far more interest in music than the Academy Awards do for film. Where is the cinematic version of Taylor Swift? Do we even have one? Now, you may not think it matters. If so, definitely chime in as well.

I would prefer better tributes and fewer attempts at comedy by presenters although sometimes they get it right. I would pick a specific time or genre to honor each year . I know they don’t always award genre films but it would be good to show genuine affection and admiration for them. I think it the AA are really about love of film it should embrace it all.
You bring up a good point about how big the stars are now. I maintain there is no Taylor Swift of film. The most famous are often not even in the awards conversation .
Do we add another acting category to reflect the Tony’s ? A featured category for actor and actress. I know many would be loath to do so but the supporting category came later not to mention other technical ones.
I am not suggesting any of this to lengthen then show but it always runs long.
