The Gotham Awards Will No Longer Have a Budget Limitation for Nominees

The 33rd annual Gotham Awards will again be one of the very first precursors of the season. Generally, the Gothams have honored some of the best in each year’s independent cinema. That might be changing this year, due to an unusual rule change decision.

According to Variety, the Gothams have dropped their budget requirement for a nominee. Now, without a limitation in how much a film can cost, just about everything will be eligible for nominations. Will all of the blockbuster movies submit? That remains to be scene, but more than likely, the nominating committee will still veer towards indies. Still, this is a notable rule change for an early precursor.
