Interview: Chatting With Mamoudou Athie and Leah Lewis About What’s ‘Elemental’ to Their Voice Work in Pixar’s Latest

A good voice performance seamlessly blends a voice with an image. Pixar’s Elemental is another in their long line of films that have impeccably casted voice work. In this movie, it’s Mamoudou Athie and Leah Lewis, both of whom are wonderful. We spoke last week about their performances, right after I’d seen the flick in full. Yesterday, my conversation with director Peter Sohn and producer Denise Ream went live here. Today, it’s Athie and Lewis’ turn.

Below, you can see my chat with Athie and Lewis. I wanted to hear from them about what it was like seeing the finished work after having spent so long just doing voice work. The trust that they put in Sohn was well-founded, judging by how right they just sound. As mentioned above, Pixar is great at this, so talking to these two about their contributions to this latest success was a pleasure. Elemental is in theaters right now, so be sure to check it out…

In my review of Elemental, I had this to say about their work:

The voice cast is uniformly strong, slipping into their roles and disappearing. Leah Lewis showcases all the fiery passion of Ember, while Mamoudou Athie makes sure the bigger personality of Wade never becomes caricature. Their chemistry is splendid, really buying you into the love story at play. They’re easily the highlights

Pixar

Here now is my interview with Elemental stars Mamoudou Athie and Leah Lewis. Enjoy:

Elemental is in theaters now!
