Disney Delays Most of their Movies: ‘Deadpool 3’ Bumped Up to May 2024

As more film and television productions get delayed as a result of the WGA strike, Disney has delayed most of its upcoming film releases to a year or two whilst also tweaking the calendar of its upcoming Marvel, Star Wars, and Avatar films.

The only movie not to face a delay is Deadpool 3, which has been moved UP from November 8, 2024, to May 3, 2024, taking the place of Captain America: Brave New World, which will now bow out on July 26, 2024. Deadpool 3 is currently filming amid the strike, meaning that actor Ryan Reynolds will not be allowed to improvise most of his lines as Deadpool, which occurred during the first and second movies.

Lucasfilm has also been trying to get a Star Wars movie in the ground for a long time and has now dated two, one on May 22, 2026, and the other on December 18, 2026. Will they happen? Who knows, but the last Star Wars movie to have been released in May flopped so badly that Lucasfilm paused all developments on future Star Wars spinoff films and reworked some of them in television series. Not great!

In other sci-fi-related news, the upcoming Alien movie, which was initially slated to release on Hulu, is now going to make its way to theatres (as it should) and will release on August 16, 2024. Disney missed a massive opportunity to make tons of money in the summer of 2022 when they released Prey on Hulu instead of in theatres. Now it looks like they’re correcting their mistake with the latest Alien installment.

The full updated calendar can be seen below:

  • Captain America: Brave New World: July 26, 2024 (original date: May 3, 2024)
  • Thunderbolts: December 20, 2024 (original date: July 26, 2024)
  • Untitled Alien: August 16, 2024 (originally planned for Hulu release)
  • Blade: February 14, 2025 (original date: September 6, 2024)

Ah, but, you see Rob Liefeld said Reynolds WILL be able to improvise, just in post-production through ADR: https://www.cbr.com/deadpool-3-ryan-reynolds-can-improv/
