There are no shortage of wonderful characters in Ted Lasso, and that’s putting it mildly. Chief among them is Jamie Tartt, with his really well handled evolution. Season One had Tartt, played brilliantly by Phil Dunster, as a star player that’s harder to root for than most of the players. However, Season Two transitioned the character in a truly compelling way, setting up Season Three as a surprising move forward for the athlete. Both as a player and as a person, Dunster, as well as the writers, has Tartt in a place you’d likely never have guessed at the start of the show. About a year ago, I spoke to Dunster (here) about that in progress evolution. A few days ago, we reunited to continue that conversation. Today, you can watch us break it all down.
Below, you can see my chat with Dunster. We got along last time and this time was the same. He is funny, thoughtful, and clearly in tune with his character. In making sure there’s depth to Jamie, the character has become easy to root for. Everyone involved is a part of a larger story, so it’s far from the Jason Sudeikis show, great as he is, and Dunster deserves a ton of credit for helping to achieve that. If you haven’t been watching Season Three of Ted Lasso, it’s as good as ever, so be sure to rectify that immediately!
Here now is my newest interview with Ted Lasso co-star Phil Dunster. Enjoy:
