‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ Sequel Adds New Cast Members Including Kumail Nanjiani and Patton Oswalt

Among the list of cast additions for Sony Pictures’ sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife are Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, comedian James Acaster, and Emily Alyn Lind.

The 2021 sequel was a success for Sony despite its release during the pandemic opening to $44 million and going on to collect $200 million worldwide. Paul Rudd and Carrie Coon will reprise their roles, but a few changes are also in store for the revived franchise including Gil Kenan directing while previous director Jason Reitman will write and produce alongside Kenan and Jason Blumenfeld. 

Another significant change is that despite little being known about the sequel, the plot is reported to be moving back to New York City and connect with locations recognizable from the original film. Sony currently is eyeing a December 2023 release.
