‘Apollo 10 1/2: A Space Age Childhood’ and ‘Marcel the Shell With Shoes On’ Are Eligible for Best Animated Feature

A24

It looks like a couple of Best Animated Feature contenders at the Academy Awards have gotten a recent ruling in their favor. Previously, it had seemed like both Apollo 10½: A Space Age Childhood and Marcel the Shell with Shoes On were going to be ruled ineligible by the Academy in the category. Obviously, they seemed like potential victims of this, but the appeals process has gone through, with possibly surprising results.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Motion Picture Academy’s short films and feature animation branch executive committee has rules that both of the above mentioned movies, as well as Eternal Spring, are eligible to be nominated in Best Animated Feature at the Oscars. Whether that happens or not is still to be seen, but the Academy will be able to consider them, which is step one.
